MANIFESTO

The need to communicate some deep emotions, the desire to emancipate the guitar from the stagnant academicism, and the insatiable search for the world’s musics are the Eon Guitar Quartet’s “manifesto”.

It not only is the meeting and the dialogue among four artists, but it is also a laboratory to work out a new guitar’s conception. So we start from the tunings, or better still from the unusual going out of tune which opens the harmonic potentialities and the timbre’s colorations of the guitar to the resonant worlds that have been unexplored so far.

That’s how it is possible to adopt the musical systems belonging to other civilizations such as the Arabian and the Indian ones.This search also stretches to the most rhythmical aspects which are typical of the Afro-Cuban rituals. It is thus that the guitar changes into a drum as if by magic by assuming the evocative spirit with an unprecedented relevance.

The original stylistic contributions of this ensemble’s members who have all a classical education but also a deep-rooted link with some parallel musical sides, from the folk music to the jazz and electronic ones, connect with the ethnical aspects of the Eon Guitar Quartet’s repertoire.

The musical and cultural values, of whom the Eon Guitar Quartet becomes a witness and a go-between, are the improvising spirit and the music of our time. We mean by this the music of the people who meet and of the times that cancel each other out. The name springs from here, that is to say from the creating principle and the listening world.
