Notes on the concert
Harri Suilamos' Anfangs is piece where all the range of guitars finest sound colours can be heard.
The piece is composed in 4 small parts.
Toru Takemitsu composed “In the woods” for his last work before he died. In this piece the Japanese culture and pantheistic belief come together. Its atmosphere is meditative and resembles
as in form and also in melodic language like Japanese garden with stone and small trees.
The parts of the piece represent three different places in nature where the pantheistic idea recalls each own spiritual characteristic.
Bach´s Sonata I BWV 1001 is first of three sonatas for solo violin.
Bach composed the piece for solo violin to challenge the player to find and express the whole harmony of the music only with violin without the basso continuo and accompaniment.
I have arranged the Sonata for guitar as it would have been performed and phrased with violin. The idea is not to imitate violin but to express the music in that way that Bach had it in his mind.
Mexican composer Manuel Ponces Sonata III is composed in sonata form. The first part begins with idea of classical sonata form but Ponce alters the sonata idea to new ideas. Second part is beautiful Chancon which leads to the joyous third part.
Barrios was influenced in his composing about the folklorist aspects of his home country Paraguay. He was interested in his native country's songs and musical history and reflected these studies in his work.
